Fee regulations are applied irrespective of age or concession status. If you have multiple issues to discuss which may exceed 10 minutes, either book multiple appointments or be ready to pay (you will get appropriate Medicare rebate) (Please provide us bank details to get it at the reception before you leave)

Doctors — Medical Centre in Wandal QLD
  • When you are booking an appointment, please tell the receptionist what you are booking the appointment for.
  • To save your money and not to be frustrated, please tell the doctor your MOST IMPORTANT  AND  URGENT  ISSUE  By telling that last will not save you anything as we follow this new billing protocol when the  consultation  extends  beyond 10 minutes. (remember this  10 minute slot  includes doctor’s history taking ,physical examination, planning  investigations and treatment, his  or explanation  about  your  condition, clinical  findings, and planned management, and note taking.  IT IS NOT ONLY YOUR TALKING TIME.

SOMETHING VERY  SIMPLE  TO  YOU MAY TAKE 20 MINUTES OR MORE DEPENDING ON THE COMPLEXITY. PLEASE BE AWARE OF THAT.)

Example:

  1. For prescription – very short appointment
  2. Ordinary consultations (bulk billed up to 10 mins, if goes beyond 10 minutes you will be privately billed and you will get Medicare rebate)
  3. Holistic Medicine – discussion of assessment forms generally takes more than 10 minutes and will be privately billed. You can claim Medicare rebate (or you can book multiple appointments)
  • Please DO NOT book any appointment if you are not sure that you are going to come or not.
  • There are a lot of patients those who are missing out of chance to get a same-day appointment and, if you do not turn up, you are doing something unfair for those people
  • If you want to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please do so before 9:00 am each day for us to offer it to a desperate person who really wants to see the doctor. Unless there is an emergency, calling and canceling at the last minute is not regarded as a courtesy.
  • When you reschedule after 9:00 am each day, you will be given an appointment only at the end of the day next time enabling us to release the staff early if you do not turn up.
  • We have started to actively screen frequent re-schedulers and non-attenders. If you belong to that category (we will inform you once screened), the best option for you is to play with another practice as we have to look after our loyal regular attendees and serve them. In such a situation, we will still look after you in an emergency and regular appointments may not be offered to you (there are 70 other GPs in the city and your care is not going to be affected)
  • When the doctors ask you to do a blood or any other type of test you are supposed to do them within one week unless advised otherwise. Also, you are supposed to return for the results within 10 days of performing the test. Unless it is very urgent, it is your personal duty to come and discuss the results with the doctor for your good health.
  • If you are referred to a specialist or a hospital clinic due to some reason, making appointments with the relevant specialist and attending to the appointment is your personal responsibility. Any harm happened of not following doctor’s advice is your liability like in any other thing in your life (example: when you violate road rules or did not bills etc. you cannot say that you do not know because you are a layman- the same common sense is applied for the above)
  • If you smoke or drink, they pose serious health hazards like cancers and liver failure. If you do so it is your duty to refrain from them and look after your health. Doctors can help you to get out of the habit but they cannot make you to refrain from those habits unless you really want to.
  • If you are overweight or obese, you need to stick to diet plans and do exercise to lose weight. Doctor/ doctors will help you by giving information and treatment.
  • Due to active Medicare auditing and fining the doctors, we cannot do blood tests or x-rays (CT/MRI) to satisfy the patient or the partner. We do our best when it is really necessary and justifiable according to the guidelines. But, if you really want to get a test done and ready to pay privately, our doctor/doctors are ready to help you at any time within the medical guidelines.
  • We appreciate your kind understanding and compliance.
  • Australian Medicare rules are changing fast. We have to keep up-to-date with them.
  • Please note:

We DO NOT start or prescribe S8 drugs to new patients.

“Sleeping pills/ benzodiazepines” cannot be prescribed unless there is a very valid reason (except short term) (less than 10 days). you need to try alternatives and good sleep hygiene.

  • We practice alternative/ natural medicine when it is appropriate or if the patient prefers it.
  • Due to Medicare requirements we cannot do a mental health care plan on the same day. You need to fill “mental health history form” first. (Can get it from the reception)

We thank you very much for taking time to read and understand.

Management

Wandal Medical Centre

Patients can make appointments by phoning our practice or by presenting in person. Please consider the following special situations prior to requesting an appointment:

  1. If you are a new patient who may want to have a consultation about 1 or more complex health issues, let us know at time of booking.
  2. If you need paperwork, please inform our reception staff as you may need to have the last appointment of the day, depending on the complexity.
  3. If you make an appointment, but during the consultation your doctor feels you need a lengthy consultation, you will be advised to make the last appointment of the day.
  4. For heavy vehicle drivers’ licenses, you may be asked to make another appointment (usually the last of the day) to provide both you and your doctor enough time without stress.

A standard appointment is 10 minutes. These appointments are bulk-billed, except for speedway racing medicals.

If you need a 30-minute appointment for a particular matter, we can accommodate you after discussing it with the doctor.

Cancellations & No-Shows

As a medical service provider, we value all our patients equally. From a business perspective, we prefer loyal patients who keep their appointments.

If you frequently cancel or miss appointments, you will be given less priority for future booking requests. This is in respect to our patients who may have requested your appointment time prior to your cancellation or no-show.

Re-Scheduling Long Appointments

Re-scheduling is available for long (30-minute) appointments, however please give us as much notice as possible. We are unable to re-schedule long appointments when we are given less than a day’s notice. A standard (10 minute) appointment time can be arranged in replacement.

After-Hours Appointment Failure to Cancel

Failure to give at least 24 hours’ notice when cancelling after-hours appointments will result in this service no longer being made available to you. You will be required to arrange multiple shorter appointments during normal business hours.

Behaviour

We ask that our clients be friendly and polite to all our staff, as we are to you. Aggressive, rude or impolite patients, or bystanders, will not be tolerated unless the person has an acute mental illness at the time. We are very selective and cautious in prescribing narcotic medications, including tramadol and benzodiazepines. If the patient demands a prescription from them or tries to convince the doctor nothing else is effective, those patients are advised to see a doctor at another practice.
